SPANISH

Goals of Midland's Spanish program
Spanish is the only language taught at Midland, a philosophical decision based on our location in California. It is the goal of the Spanish Department at Midland to graduate students who have become proficient in the four skills: reading, writing, listening, and speaking. The first year course introduces students to the language and culture, and helps them master basic grammar and vocabulary. The second year course expects students to master the advanced structures of grammar and to display increased fluency in the written and spoken use of the language. The junior year, the entire junior class takes a two week immersion trip to Mexico, regardless of your level of Spanish participation. At advanced levels, the goal is to conduct classes entirely in Spanish. All courses use literature as the basis for the reading element. Advanced Spanish students are encouraged to take the Advanced Placement Exam.
