Scheduling a Visit

A visit to Midland School will give you the chance to see first hand what makes Midland such a valuable educational experience. In the course of your visit, you will come to understand how our philosophies of simplicity and self-reliance make for a formative, essential education. Please call the Admissions Office at 805-688-5114 ext. 14 and speak with Derek Svennungsen, Director of Admissions.

The available days to visit are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, from 9:30 a.m. to noon (or through lunch, if you'd like), or from 1:00 to 3:30 on those same days. We can also host students on Saturday at 9:30. Occasionally, a prospective student can choose to spend the night on campus; please discuss this option with the Director of Admissions if you are interested. The visit includes a tour of the immediate campus and the surrounding property. Please dress casually and wear good walking shoes; Midland is an outdoor school in the truest sense of the word.

Directions to Midland School

Midland School is located in Santa Barbara County in the town of Los Olivos, CA.  Los Olivos is north of the cities of Santa Barbara and Buellton, and south of the cities of San Luis Obispo and Santa Maria.

From the north:
Travel Highway 101 South to the exit for "Highway 154/Los Olivos/Cachuma Lake," turning left onto Highway 154.  Follow Highway 154 for 3 miles to the town of Los Olivos, on your right, and Figueroa Mountain Road, directly to the left.  Turn left up Figueroa and proceed 5.1 miles to the Midland School entrance on your right. Cross the bridge and park at the fence, directly in front of Main House.

From the south
Travel on Highway 101 North through Santa Barbara and towards Santa Maria. Six miles after you pass through Buellton, take the exit for Highway 154.  Turn right on 154 and drive 3 miles to the town of Los Olivos, which is on the right, and Figueroa Mountain Road, directly to the left.  Turn left onto Figueroa.  Proceed 5.1 miles to the Midland School entrance on your right. Cross the bridge and park at the fence, directly in front of Main House. (A shortcut for the intrepid traveler--take San Marcos Pass/154 out of Santa Barbara, which cuts through the mountains; Figueroa Mtn. Rd. is 30 miles from Santa Barbara, on the right).
