Midland accepts applications for
grades 9, 10, and 11; current deadline is May 15
"What do I love about Midland? Working in theater, taking World Studies, scoring my first goal in lacrosse, giggling with friends." ~Frances K. Class of 2009

General Admissions Information
If you are energetic, enjoy challenges, and have a desire to learn to be independent, you will be interested in attending our school. Midland seeks motivated students who have a solid academic background and an appreciation of community, of the outdoors, and of challenges, to join our community of thinkers, explorers, citizens, and leaders. We accept new students in grades 9 through 11, though there are fewer spaces available in the higher grades. It is very rare that we accept a student during the school year. Admissions decisions are based on a combination of factors: scholastic achievement, academic ability, personal character, and interests. We would be happy to put you in touch with current Midland families to speak about the school with you.

n
the event that we have spaces available after that date, we will continue to accept applications and visitors. We notify applicants of their status in the middle of March.

Please note: A $30 application fee is due with the paper application.

Tuition
Tuition at Midland for the 2008-09 school year is $35,000, payable in three installments. The tuition costs are due fully by July 1 or, at a cost of 2.5% of tuition charged, in halves by July 1 and November 1. To cover extra costs associated with school life, parents/guardians are required to provide the school with an active credit card number for students to use in the school store. This will cover the costs of everything from books to personal items to sporting equipment, and the families will be billed directly. Additionally, families are responsible for providing their children with spending money. An account will be set up in the Student Bank.

Financial Aid
Midland's extensive financial aid budget is intended to help make our school accessible to all families, regardless of financial resources. Midland makes only need-based financial aid awards. Like many other independent schools, we use the Student Support Service (SSS) program to determine which families receive aid. You may request an application form directly from the school, or you may fill the paperwork out online at the SSS website.
Our aid is distributed on a first come, first served basis, and we therefore encourage families that know they'll need financial assistance to complete the application, and the admissions process, by early February. For families using the SSS, Midland's school code is 5074. Some loan companies specialize in secondary school loans, and are a useful way to supplement the tuition. Two links are: www.prepgate.com and www.key.com/educate/.

International Students
Midland does not offer English as a Second Language, and therefore international students must already demonstrate English proficiency to be considered for admission. International students should plan on taking the TOEFL and the SSAT. We issue I-20 forms after we receive enrollment forms and the appropriate tuition payment. Due to the processing fees associated with the I-20, and for proper insurance coverage, there is $2,000 added to the tuition of an international student.
