Lise Goddard is Midland's Associate Director of Studies and teaches Chemistry. She earned her B.A. from Stanford University and M.A. from UC Santa Barbara. She is in her 13th year at Midland. Lise helps guides Midland’s environmentally-based curriculum. Under her direction, and with financial support from the E.E. Ford foundation and other grants, the sophomore class has installed solar panels for the last 10 years. The electricity generated currently meets 30% of the school’s demand. In 2009, Midland was the only school in California to receive the Governor’s Award for Environmental and Economic Leadership.

Under the Oak is Lise's monthly column with reflections on Midland's daily life and place-based curriculum.
